Can passkeys be used for all types of online accounts ?

Passkeys, as they are commonly understood in the context of Bluetooth or wireless device pairing, are not typically used for online accounts. However, there are similar concepts such as passphrases or PINs that are used for online account security.

  1. Passphrases: Passphrases are longer and more complex than traditional passwords. They consist of multiple words or a combination of words, numbers, and symbols. Passphrases offer enhanced security compared to traditional passwords because they are longer and more difficult to crack through brute-force methods. Many online services and platforms allow users to create passphrases for their accounts.

  2. PINs: Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) are numeric codes typically used for authentication purposes, such as unlocking a smartphone, accessing an ATM, or logging into a bank account. While not as common for online accounts as passwords or passphrases, some services may allow users to set up a PIN for additional security.

While passkeys specifically are not commonly used for online accounts, passphrases and PINs serve similar purposes by providing an additional layer of security for accessing sensitive information or online services.
